SENCIO COMMUNITY LEISURE TO OPERATE WATERSIDE CLUB AT BUCKDEN MARINA
The Waterside Club at Cambridgeshire’s Buckden Marina comes under new management this month as Sencio Community Leisure (SCL) assumes responsibility for key services associated with the 92-acre site.
SCL will take on a 15-year lease from owners Mark Williams Leisure Estates and will use its expertise to operate the marina’s grounds maintenance function, its bar and café and health and fitness facilities.
Mark Whyman, chief executive of SCL – which runs a chain of leisure centres and an award-winning public golf course in Kent – says:
“The opportunity to operate key elements of this popular east of England facility is an extremely exciting one for the Sencio team. It will allow us to use vast leisure operations expertise to build on, and further enhance, the success of the Waterside Club.
“Our immediate priority is to ensure a smooth and seamless transition for our new customers, staff and partners. From there, we will then be looking at ways of ensuring both existing and new users can maximise their enjoyment of these impressive leisure facilities.”
The Waterside Club, which is also open to the general public as well as those travelling the region’s inland waterways, feature a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and a 30-station fitness gym.
Mark Williams, managing director of Mark Williams Leisure Estates, says: “I am delighted that key elements of the leisure offering at Waterside Club are now in such capable hands and I’m looking forward to a very beneficial partnership. Our two businesses have much in common, with the customer very firmly at the centre of everything we aim to achieve
“Sencio and its management team have a long and distinguished track recording running leisure facilities. This experience, coupled with their vision and knowledge of the leisure and fitness industries, means that the Waterside Club is well-placed to grow as a business while at the same time striving to deliver the best possible member experience.”
