SENCIO COMMUNITY LEISURE SECURES IFI ACCREDITATION
Sencio Community Leisure (SCL) has secured the Inclusive Fitness Initiative’s (IFI) provisional level status.
The Kent-based operator - which manages flagship leisure centres in the county, a championship length golf course with maintenance services, and also runs a holiday leisure facility in Cambridge - has achieved the accreditation for its work at Sevenoaks Leisure Centre.
Projects in which the centre has been involved recently have included improvements to physical elements of the building to aid access, training of staff in disability awareness, and new parking and emergency evacuation policies.
The centre, in conjunction with SCL’s disability access officer and a range of partners, has also organised a family open day in conjunction with Valence School (a specialist education facility) to showcase various specialist and adapted sports, and launched a Friday evening fun club for children with disabilities, their siblings, parents and carers.
Mark Whyman, Sencio Community Leisure’s chief executive, says: “We are a business truly rooted in the communities we serve. Access to facilities and opportunities for everyone has always been key to our operation and we are constantly looking to develop and serve the needs of our customers better.
“Working with the IFI to help us achieve this aim has been very beneficial and we believe projects in which we engage with the community and our partners are absolutely key.”
The news follows SCL’s win of the Lloyds TSB Sevenoaks District Inclusion Award earlier this month.
