PACIFIC ASIA TRAVEL ASSOCIATION UK CHAPTER WINS AWARD FOR PROMOTING TOURISM TO BALI
The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) UK Chapter has been recognised for its efforts in promoting tourism to the Indonesian island of Bali.
The award, presented at the recent World Travel Market by the Bali Tourism Board, is in appreciation of the support in helping to promote Bali to the UK travel trade and, ultimately, British tourists.
After many years of well-documented problems affecting Indonesia’s tourism industry, Bali is now recording increased visitor numbers and proving. once again, to be a long-haul destination of choice for European travellers.
Further evidence of Indonesia’s re-emerging tourism appeal is the recent announcement by Garuda Indonesia of the resumption of flights between Denpasar (Bali) and Amsterdam next summer, with other European cities – including London – also highlighted in the airline’s medium-term plans. KLM currently flies from Amsterdam to Bali three times a week with connections from London and a number of UK regional airports.
Commenting on receiving the award from Mr Sapta Nirwandar, director general marketing, Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Tourism, PATA UK Chapter executive director Ian Hawkes said he was delighted the efforts of the chapter members had been recognised.
“Bali and indeed, Indonesia as a whole is a stunning destination made even more attractive by the friendliness of its people and natural beauty. The PATA UK Chapter will continue to highlight the many charms of the country and will work with the Indonesian tourism authorities and our members to ensure wonderful destinations such as Bali are imaginatively promoted to the UK market.”
