TRY THE NEW FITNESS STRESS-BUSTER AS SEVENOAKS LEISURE CENTRE LAUNCHES PADBOX

A new exercise class designed to improve all-round body fitness, co-ordination and reflexes – as well as providing the perfect antidote to any stress-filled lifestyle – arrives at Sevenoaks Leisure Centre later this month.

Padbox takes the principles of boxing, such as footwork and the delivering and taking of punches, and progresses it to shadow boxing and work with gloves and pads. The aim is to make sessions as close as possible to the real boxing experience without participants hitting or being hit by their partner.

Sencio Community Leisure will also be taking Padbox into schools in the Sevenoaks district with plans to expand this programme as additional members of the Sencio team acquire their official instructor status. The work in schools across the community has been made possible by funding from Sports Unlimited, a scheme administered by Sport England that distributes funds to projects in counties across the country.

Padbox is a progression of the Boxercise classes which have been run successfully by leisure centres and sports clubs across the UK for some time. And as Colin Hunwick, Sencio Community Leisure’s sports development officer explains, it is a class where the benefits can be enjoyed by participants regardless of age, sex or existing levels of fitness:

“Padbox is more about general body conditioning than preparing you to go five rounds in the ring. As has been proven with the success of Boxercise it’s a great way to get and keep in shape, it is suitable for most people and also has a sociable element that ensures classes are fun as well as hard work.”

Padbox classes begin at Sevenoaks Leisure Centre on February 23 at 8.30 pm with a weekly 45-minute taster session designed to provide an informal introduction for which the cost is £2.00. This will then be followed by a 10-week course starting on Tuesday evenings from March 23 (also at 8.30 pm). The course costs £38.87 for Sencio all-in-one members, £51 for Sencio cardholders and £64.50 for non-members/non cardholders.
