Edenbridge Leisure Centre has reconfirmed its long-standing commitment to one of the UK’s leading charity fundraising events by signing-up again as an official facility for the annual Swimathon challenge.
The centre will be one of 500 pools taking part in the nationwide event that will, once again, benefit Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Swimathon 2010 offers a fundraising opportunity to suit everyone, with participants challenging themselves to complete up to five kilometres as an individual or as a team in partnership with friends, family or colleagues.
Last year’s event raised in excess of £1.5 million for the charity that provides free nursing care to cancer patients and those with other terminal illnesses in their own homes.
Each year, Marie Curie Cancer Care provides support to around 29,000 terminally ill patients in the community and in its hospices, employing more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals.
Edenbridge Leisure Centre will be hosting two special Swimathon 2010 sessions for local swimmers wanting to take part in the challenge. These will take place on Thursday April 15 (8.00 to 10.00 pm) and Saturday April 17 (3.00 to 6.00 pm).
