SILK STEPS ADDS NEW ‘FLOATING’ ECO LODGE TO CAMBODIA PROGRAMME
South East Asia specialists Silk Steps has introduced a brand new eco project into its Cambodia programme.
The 4 Rivers Floating Eco Lodge is situated in Tatai – half way between Bangkok and Phnom Penh and close to the Thai island of Koh Chang. And, from the moment of arrival by speedboat or a more leisurely cruising vessel, the emphasis is on a combination of impressive environmental credentials matched with modern day comforts.
The resort’s 12 luxury double and twin bedded tented villas extend out in a chain across mangrove waterways with the magnificent Cardamom Mountains as a backdrop, while the resort serves as a base from which to explore an area of great beauty and abundant wildlife.
The area around the Cardamom Mountains is one of important virgin forest and secluded jungle hideaways with a wildlife population that includes rare Javan rhinoceros. Indochinese tiger and Asian elephant as well as over 500 species of birdlife and, according to the World Wildlife Fund, more than 100 mammal species.
The 4 Rivers Floating Eco Lodge has been constructed with the minimal use of local wood and resources and has its own sophisticated water treatment system. Its European owners have made the local community key partners in the launch and on-going development of the business, offering employment opportunities across areas such as catering, housekeeping and maintenance.
Silk Steps can include the 4 Rivers Floating Eco Lodge as part of its South East Asia programme with the resort providing an ideally-located stop between Thailand and the temples of Angkor. A 15-day trip taking in the resort, Phnom Penh, Battambang, Siem Reap and Koh Chang costs from £1985 per person based on two people travelling.
The price includes international and regional flights, transfers, superior accommodation throughout on a bed and breakfast basis and the services of local, English-speaking guides and drivers on a private tour arrangement.
