SILK STEPS SLASHES PRICE FOR SILK ROAD SOJOURN

Silk Steps has slashed the price of a nine-day journey through the Silk Road for departures this spring and summer.

Offering a saving of up to £500 per person, the itinerary makes use of Air Baltic flights from London Gatwick and includes accommodation in small, three-star character properties and guided sightseeing on a private tour basis.

The trip begins with two nights in the Uzbek capital Tashkent before catching an internal flight to Bukhara (three nights) – a city never missed by the ancient Great Silk Road caravans and today a fascinating blend of superb historical monuments, mosques, merchant houses, narrow alleys, and squares with fountains, trees and backgammon-playing locals.

It also boasts the Kalyon minaret – the only monument left standing by a rampaging Genghis Khan who was reportedly so struck by its beauty he decided to spare it.

The trip ends with two nights in Samarkand. This UNESCO World Heritage Centre is the place where the Chinese discovered the enormous commercial importance of silk, where many buildings have been restored to their original magnificence and where, in the 21st century, visitors can explore some of the Islamic world’s most impressive architecture against a melting pot of the world’s cultures.

Silk Steps’ Silk Road Bargain costs from £1055 per person based on two people travelling.
