EDENBRIDGE LEISURE CENTRE’S NEW FUN CLUB BRINGS SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES TO DISABLED YOUNG PEOPLE

Edenbridge Leisure Centre has launched a new weekly sports and activities session for young people with disabilities.
The Fun Club will offer a range of pursuits tailored to the needs of those with disabilities in one-hour sessions with sports including football, table tennis and sitting volleyball.
Central to the programme is Rebound Therapy – a discipline that uses trampolines to provide therapeutic exercise and recreation for people with a wide range of special needs. The phrase and range of activities, first coined by its founders in 1969, has since helped provide highly valuable exercise opportunities for those with mild through to severe physical disabilities and with mild to profound multiple learning disabilities.
Becky Bowen, Sencio Community Leisure’s disability access officer, says: “We have had great success with these clubs at our centres in Sevenoaks and Swanley and are now delighted to bring the programme to Edenbridge. Our ultimate aim is to make these weekly sessions as accessible as possible to all local young people with disabilities.
“We will be dividing people into groups depending on their age and ability to ensure everyone gets as much out of the sessions as possible. And we also want to encourage parents, siblings and carers to join us too.”
The Fun Club, which is benefiting from Kent County Council’s Aiming High funding programme, runs at Edenbridge Leisure Centre on Thursdays. Sessions start at 5.30 pm and cost £2 per participant.
