RUXLEY MANOR UNVEILS HALF-TERM PROGRAMME

If there are any aspiring young garden designers out there then they could learn a lot by paying a visit to Ruxley Manor this half-term.

The Sidcup garden centre hosts regular programmes for youngsters during the school holidays and at key seasonal times of the year with the emphasis on gardening, the outdoor environment and arts and crafts.

For the programme running from June 1 to 4, the centre-piece is Making Miniature Gardens – sessions in which junior green-fingered visitors are being encouraged to get creative and, with the use of recycled objects and materials, build a miniature garden in a seed tray.

With inspiration from Ruxley Manor’s team of horticulturists and plant experts, participants will be allowed to set their imagination loose and introduce anything from tiny topiary trees to a patio area into their garden design. Children will then be encouraged to leave their creations on display in centre with visitors voting for their favourite in each of the age categories and prizes awarded to the winners.

The four-day diary of events also includes a residency by Ruxley Manor’s gifted face painter who will be on hand to transform youngsters into a whole variety of characters and creations based on their interests in a series of free daily sessions.

And completing the programme there will be another of the centre’s popular Meet the Ruxley Animals sessions in which visitors can encounter the fish, animals and reptiles who reside in the pet and aquatic department and ask questions of trained staff about the habits and history of a particular species or how to care for a new pet.
