SEVENOAKS LEISURE CENTRE LAUNCHES NEW MEMEBERSHIP SCHEME FOR DISABLED CUSTOMERS

Sencio Community Leisure (SCL) has launched a new membership scheme at Sevenoaks Leisure Centre for customers with disabilities.

The all-in-one package has been discounted and provides access to the centre’s fitness gym, swimming pool and exercise classes.

The new scheme is offered as part of SCL’s participation in the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) – a national programme in which equipment is adapted and leisure centre staff trained to meet the needs of disabled people and others with additional or special needs.

Other changes include the installation of a hearing induction loop at gym reception and adaptations to the changing room and lockers located at fitness studio level. The changing room for disabled customers has also been secured by a radar key that ensures key holders can access and exit at any time.

In addition, swimming areas now include hoist and modified pool steps as well as the existing means of access to the water. All staff have received disability awareness training, carer’s receive free admission in their supporting role and guide dogs are welcome.

Mark Whyman, chief executive of Sencio Community Leisure, says: “Over the past few years we have placed great emphasis on increasing access for our customers with disabilities. In addition to our participation in the IFI initiative, we have hosted disability sports family days and, last year, won the Lloyds TSB Sevenoaks District Inclusion Award.

“We hope this new membership – which we see very much as a part of our on-going commitment to people with disabilities - will inspire those who may not previously have participated in sport and fitness to pursue a rewarding new pastime.”

Members of the new scheme must be registered disabled. For further details on call Sevenoaks Leisure Centre on 01732 470700.
