Title:PRESS STATEMENT - EVENTS IN BANGKOK, THAILAND
Date:19/05/2010

The following statement was issued on behalf of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (UK Chapter) in relation to events in Bangkok, Thailand.

Ian Hawkes, executive director of the PATA (UK Chapter) says:

“The events in Bangkok in recent days have been disturbing, but historically Thailand has always proved to be a resilient and enterprising destination – and one much loved by British tourists for its quality, value and range of choice.

“It has to be remembered that, for many people, Thailand’s attractions lie in its beaches, islands and in its northern hubs – areas that have been largely or entirely unaffected by recent events.

“PATA UK will be working closely with our members in the UK and our head office colleagues in Thailand to support the industry and to rebuild levels of confidence where required. We will also be waiting for further guidance from the FCO on its advice in relation to travel to the Thai capital.”
