FOCUS ON SHARED SERVICES AS CONFERENCE ADDRESSES POST-ELECTION VISION

The idea of our council’s sharing key services has been on the local authority agenda for some time but has assumed greater significance as the coalition government’s plans begin to unfold.

A one-day conference from LGG next month will bring together key speakers – including the London School of Economics’ Tony Travers – to look at what is being increasingly viewed as a key component in the quest to deliver efficiencies, improve the effectiveness of the country’s councils, promote increased levels of customer satisfaction and facilitate opportunities for investment.

Key to the programme – which is being targeted at local authority lawyers and others in the areas of governance - will be a look at structures and arrangements for different approaches to the shared services model as well as reviewing practical case studies.

“Shared services is something our councils and those they work with will have to explore and address further in the months and years ahead,” says LGG’s director of training Dudley Lewis. “This conference will bring together some of the most authoritative voices on the subject from both the public and private sector and will, in particular, address how the public sector lawyer will be a key player in the future delivery of a whole range of local authority functions.”

The conference will also look at avoiding pitfalls and the lessons learned from failed shared services projects, the experiences of one of the country’s largest authorities as well as comment, debate and a review of a range of case studies.

LGG’s Shared Services Conference will take place at the Hallam Conference Centre in London on Monday July 5. The cost is £235 plus VAT per delegate and the day carries 5.5 CPD points.
