GLEEFULL ANTICIPATION AS EDENBRIDGE LEISURE CENTRE UNVEILS SUMMER ACTIVITY PROGRAMME

First it was Hannah Montana, then it was High School Musical but the entertainment sensation of the moment – certainly as far as youngsters are concerned – is the massive American import Glee.
And now the comedy-drama that focuses on a high school choir and intersperses their stories with vibrant interpretations of songs from famous artists past and present is to provide the inspiration for a special workshop as part of Edenbridge Leisure Centre’s annual programme of sports, games, activities and pursuits for the summer holiday.
Organised by Sencio Community Leisure, the five-week calendar of events aims to offer something to engage and inspire every youngster regardless of whether their interests lie in the sporting and active or the creative and artistic.
Heading up the sports offering is a full calendar of swimming courses for all ages and abilities, trampolining crash courses and taster sessions in the ancient martial art of Tae Kwon Do.
Alongside the Glee workshop, dance and entertainment figure prominently in a programme that includes sessions inspired by pop icons Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga. There is a chance to perfect the skills and moves of a cheerleader and a look behind-the-scenes at some of the secrets of the television and film make-up artist.
Kent Police’s dog handlers will be dropping in for a demonstration of the important work done by them and their charges, there will be a chance to take to a specially-constructed inflatable track for some go-karting fun, and the ever-popular Creepy Crawlie Show will be back, allowing children to come face-to-face with a weird and wonderful collection of insects, reptiles and snakes.
Day Camps – long a popular feature of the Edenbridge Leisure Centre programme – will be back in both half- and full-day formats, providing opportunities to participate in a wide choice of activities and allowing parents greater flexibility in planning child care over the year’s longest academic break.
The under-fives get their own sessions covering toddler sports, baby disco, no mess cooking and a Disney-inspired dance workshop. And for any youngster interested in trying their hand at golf, Sencio’s Lullingstone Park Golf Course is offering tuition as part of its junior development programme.
NRgize runs at Edenbridge Leisure Centre from July 26 to September 2. For further details call 01732 865665. The full programme can also be downloaded by visiting www.sencio.org.uk
